Background of mSehat
Uttar Pradesh, the fourth largest State in the country with a population of 199.50 million, has 75 districts, 820 blocks and 1,07,776 villages. Infant mortality rate ("IMR") and Maternal Mortality Rate ("MMR") in the State are among the highest in the country - well above the national average and much higher than the target set as the Millennium Development Goal ("MDG"). Although large investments have been made in the health sector, continuing high mortality underlines the need to further strengthen the public health service delivery in the State.
